Raipur to Chitrakote

Ride deep into the tribal heartland of India on this 3-day journey from Raipur to Bastar. Conquer the winding Keshkal Ghat (expect ongoing bypass construction with potential diversions, a 10-15km section with potholes, and recent reports of road blockages due to maintenance work. Travelers from Rajnandgaon to Jagdalpur via NH30 are advised to take a diversion via Dalli Rajhara → Bhanupratappur → Antagarh → Narayanpur → Kondagaon → Jagdalpur) and cruise through dense Sal forests on NH30. Be aware of nightmarish road conditions through Kanger, potentially worsened by recent heavy rainfall and severe flooding in the Bastar region (late September 2026) which submerged sections of NH-30 and caused Jagdalpur's worst flooding in 15 years. Note: Strengthening work is currently underway on sections of the Jagdalpur-Sukma-Konta Road on NH-30 (KM 14.20 to 25.53 and 31.54 to 55.70), and short-term maintenance contracts are active on NH30 from Raipur to Jagdalpur (KM 81.50 to 254), which may cause further diversions or delays, particularly affecting travel near Jagdalpur. Before reaching the majestic Chitrakote Falls, the "Niagara of India." Note: An under-construction, manageable road now connects Chitrakote Falls directly to NH30 at Bhanpuri, offering an alternative return route to Raipur without necessarily returning to Jagdalpur. Be aware that national highway tolls have increased and now strictly require cashless payment (FASTag/UPI). Vehicles without a functional FASTag will incur a 25% higher toll fee if paying via UPI, or double the standard toll fee if paying in cash. An annual FASTag pass for ₹3,075 (200 trips/1 year) is also now available for private vehicles. Experience local tribal culture, coffee plantations, and stunning sunsets at Dalpat Sagar Lake. Note: Be cautious in forest areas of Bastar as police reported in May 2026 that buried explosives (mines) remain, which may take a couple of seasons to clear.
