Ride the ultimate Sahyadri circuit starting from Pune, cruising through the strawberry fields of Mahabaleshwar and the winding Medha Ghat. Experience the raw beauty of Chalkewadi's windmill farms and the historic Sajjangad Fort on this solo motorcycle adventure. This 3-day loop offers a perfect mix of smooth highways, ghat corners, and offbeat plateau rides. Be aware of ongoing pre-monsoon conditions in Maharashtra, including Pune and Satara regions, with IMD issuing yellow alerts for light to moderate rain in Pune as of June 15, 2026. High landslide risks and flash flood warnings were active in the Western Ghats, including Mahabaleshwar, from June 10-13, 2026, with a recent flash flood incident near Mahabaleshwar between June 9-11, 2026. Be prepared for changing weather conditions and exercise extreme caution in ghat sections.

Start early to escape city traffic. Grab a classic Bun Maska and Chai at Vohuman Cafe near Ruby Hall Clinic before hitting the road.

Turn off NH48 at Surur onto the Wai-Panchgani road. Be aware of potential traffic disruptions and poor road conditions, including large potholes and dust, on the Surur–Poladpur highway, especially the 16-18 km stretch between Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar, due to ongoing construction and recent protests. Enjoy the wide, sweeping corners of Pasarni Ghat. Great photo ops of the valley below.

Check into your hotel/hostel. Be aware that the poor road conditions and ongoing construction on the Surur–Poladpur highway (Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar stretch) may affect local travel and the overall experience in Mahabaleshwar. Due to recent heavy rainfall and flash flood incidents (June 9-11, 2026), exercise extreme caution, especially in low-lying areas and near water bodies. High landslide risks were also reported in the Western Ghats, including Mahabaleshwar, from June 10-13, 2026. Spend the evening visiting Arthur's Seat for the sunset view over the Konkan cliffs.

Take the SH58 route towards Satara via Medha. This is a biker's delight—narrower than Pasarni but scenic and less crowded.

Ride past Thoseghar Waterfalls to the Chalkewadi plateau. Hundreds of windmills spinning on a rugged landscape. Excellent off-beat riding terrain.
Descend back to Satara city and join the NH48 highway for the return leg. The new six-lane twin-tube Khambatki Ghat tunnel on NH48 is nearing completion with trial operations underway, significantly reducing travel time through the ghat to 5-10 minutes. Be aware that while sections of NH48 are smooth, ongoing road widening and concrete paving between Satara and Karad mean some parts are still under development and may have diversions or rough patches. Also, be mindful of potential traffic congestion on the approach to Pune, as experienced recently near Bavdhan on June 5, 2026.
Stop at 'Vitthal Kamat' or McDonald's near Shirwal for a quick highway lunch.
Enter Pune via the Katraj tunnel. End of trip.
