Day 1: Leh → Hunder

Conquer the 5,359m high mountain pass. Take quick photos and drink water. Limit stop to 15 minutes to avoid altitude sickness.

Cross into the Balti cultural region. Indian citizens must obtain an Environment/Development Fee (EDF) receipt online via the official UT portal and show it to army officials (Inner Line Permits are no longer required for Indian nationals as of 2026). Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the DC Office and must also complete India's mandatory e-Arrival Card online within 72 hours of their flight to India. Notice the shift to traditional stone architecture.
