Backtrack towards Loma. Buy fuel in black at Hanle or fill up at Nyoma if operational.
Cross Mahe Bridge and turn LEFT towards Sumdo. Do not go straight (leads back to Leh).
A small saline lake before Tso Moriri. Great photo stop. Road becomes rough dirt track from here.
Reach Korzok village. Visit the monastery and walk to the lake shore. Stay in a tent/guesthouse.
Ride back to Sumdo and turn left towards Polokongka La. See Puga hot springs and sulphur deposits.
Pass the salt lake Tso Kar. Watch for Kiangs (wild asses). Join the Manali-Leh highway.
Taglang La Pass (17,480 ft) is now open for light motor vehicles and motorcycles. The Manali-Leh Highway, which this route joins, was fully connected by BRO on May 12, 2026, and opened for LMVs on May 14, 2026. Motorcycle traffic is permitted, though the Darcha-Sarchu section operates on one-way alternate-day traffic.
