Jammu to Srinagar via Mughal Road

Follow the footsteps of emperors on this historic drive from Jammu to Srinagar across the Pir Panjal range. This scenic alternative to the main highway takes you through the stunning Peer Ki Gali pass, the majestic Noori Chamb waterfall, and Shopian's endless apple orchards. Ideal for couples seeking a leisurely drive through mist-covered mountains and lush valleys. Note that the Mughal Road was temporarily closed due to fresh snowfall and slippery conditions at Peer Ki Gali on May 4-5, 2026, stranding hundreds of vehicles. The Mughal Road was again temporarily closed on June 12, 2026, due to fresh snowfall in the higher areas, particularly Peer Ki Gali, and slippery conditions. The region, including areas on or near the route like Rajouri and Poonch, experienced severe cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in July and early August 2026, leading to road closures and casualties. While it has since reopened, new regulated timings for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) up to 10 tyres are in effect: from both sides between 07:00 AM and 06:00 PM. Commuters are advised to check the latest road status with Traffic Control Units before traveling due to potential snowfall, landslides, or shooting stones. All national highway toll payments are now exclusively digital (FASTag or UPI) as of April 1, 2026.
